When Huehn was 4, his family moved to the Bahamas, a group of islands in the Atlantic Ocean where his interest in marine life developed. Marc moved to California when he was 18 years old and graduated from Stanford University in Palo Alto with a degree in marine zoology in 1929. The next year, Mr Huehn went to Hawaii to finish his research on whale behavior and obtained his master’s degree. He then went on to pursue his doctoral degree while teaching as a professor in the same university. For the next couple of years, Marc Huehn worked as a researcher at Stanford University and later at Scripps Institution for Biological Research until he decided to head back home to the Bahamas to continue his research on whales and dolphins.

Marc Huehn’s work provided the earliest documentations of the underwater life of whales and dolphins. Marc was among the first to observe and document that dolphins use characteristic whistles and clicks. These were later identified as echolocation or SONAR.
